In Bobojon
Ghafurov District, Sughd Region, communities faced the constant threat of natural disasters, including earthquakes that could strike without warning, trapping residents, igniting fires, and spreading widespread panic.
Recognizing this urgent risk, the Aga Khan Foundation (AKF), in collaboration with the Committee of Emergency Situations and Civil Defense (CoESCD) of Bobojon Ghafurov District and local government authorities — including the Firefighting Department, Police Division, and Ambulance Service — organized a joint emergency management drill and simulation exercise (SIMEX).

During the exercise, a realistic scenario was set in motion: at 09:45, a powerful earthquake measuring 6–7 on the Richter scale struck the area, causing severe damage to residential buildings. Several residents were trapped under debris, a fire broke out in one structure, multiple people were injured, and the population fell into panic. Within minutes, the emergency management center received the alert and deployed rescue teams to the scene. Responders, including emergency services and community emergency response teams, assessed the situation, identified hazardous zones, and established a command post.
